2023 Letter
2022 brought with it many ups and downs, milestones, and new adventures. As we reflect on this year, we can say with confidence that it was one of healing.
Andy rang in 2022 from a hospital bed and experienced some complications from previous surgeries in March, but we also celebrated as he marked one year cancer free and one year as Ironman (with a pacemaker!). Andy also began a new job as a hospice chaplain. While the work is difficult, it is sacred. Andy is thriving in this role.
Dom and Andy ran the Run for Love 5K in June and were cheered in by members of our church family. It was humbling and emotional as we were able to celebrate this milestone together.
Dom finally really learned to ride a bike! Wonderful neighbors and friends handed down a bike and a child attachment bike, and she and enjoys taking Judah on the ride along bike around the neighborhood when they both need a “reset.” She is in her 5th year working as a Restorative Practice facilitator and began teaching a course to other educators on Restorative Discipline.
Scarlett is in 3rd grade with an amazing teacher. She enjoys weekly piano lessons and tumbling classes. It’s wonderful to see her develop her sense of self and heart for others. Her favorite book this year was The Lightning Thief!
Judah requested an “orange party” when he turned 3 in May! He enjoys bike riding, construction vehicles, Paw Patrol, and painting. He is a ball of energy and has made some sweet friends in his class this year.
We traveled to Tennessee in July and spent time with Andy’s wonderful extended family. In August, we took a short family trip to Oak Island. Dom’s brother and his family hosted us in Atlanta this fall. We saw Billy Joel and Lionel Richie in concert while there! We ended the year with Andy’s parents riding huge water slides at the Wilderness at the Smokies resort.
We end 2022 with a line by Mary Oliver: “Joy is not meant to be a crumb.”
May 2023 usher in joy, health, and peace to you and yours . - Written by Dom
