Andy's Cancer Treatment Plan
Journal entry by Andrew Frazier — 20 hours ago
Good afternoon!
I am so grateful for all of your love and support. I have received many cards, texts, phone calls, messages, and encouraging words since my last post. I am grateful for all of them. Keep them coming please.
So here is our treatment plan. My treatment includes surgery and chemotherapy. The surgery is called HIPEC. HIPEC is a treatment option for people who have advanced surface spread of cancer within the abdomen, without disease involvement outside of the abdomen. My surgery is scheduled for August 16 at Duke Cancer Center. Click on this website to learn more. I have other appointments to prepare for my surgery with Duke Cardiology, too. My medical team with UNC and Duke is excellent. I have always joined a Facebook Group for Appendix Cancer Patients, which has been so so encouraging.
After the surgery, I will be in the hospital for three to five days. We are hoping for three days. After the hospital, I will be in recovery at home for the next 6-8 weeks. During these weeks I will need to walk around, drink lots of water and eat healthy, and rest. According to our excellent physician assistant Amy, my body is preparing for a marathon and so I need to start practicing healthy exercise and eating habits today.
If you live in Raleigh and want to go for a walk with me please let me know and let's schedule a walk.
If you live outside of Raleigh and want to do a virtual walk, like my awesome friend Kim Toliver did, then you can do that with me too.
Best contact for me is my email. Email: andrewgfrazier@gmail.com or afrazie3@gmail.com.
Also please consider giving financial to the ACPMP to support research for Appendix Cancer Treatment. We ordered their cool wristbands to support the research. All their products include free shipping, too.
And here is a prayer this week to give your courage, from one of my favorite theologians, Walter Brueggemann.
Not the God we would have chosen
We would as soon you were stable and reliable.
We would as soon you were predictable.
———and always the same toward us.
We would like to take the hammer of doctrine
———and take the nails of piety
———and nail your feet to the floor
———and have you stay in one place.
And then we find you moving,
———always surprising us
———always coming at us from new directions.
Always planting us
——————and uprooting us
——————and tearing all things down
——————and making all things new.
You are not the God we would have chosen
———had we done the choosing,
———but we are your people
———and you have chosen us in freedom.
We pray for the great gift of freedom
———that we may be free toward you
———as you are in your world.
Give us that gift of freedom
———that we may move in new places
———in obedience and in gratitude.
Thank you for Jesus
———who embodied your freedom for all of us. Amen. - Walter Brueggemann
